I'm Justin Schumacher

Husband, father, public servant, volunteer and lifelong Wisconsinite

Justin Schumacher - candidate for WI Assembly

WISCONSIN ROOTS

I’m a lifelong Wisconsin resident, public servant, and community leader dedicated to strengthening local government and preserving the values that make our communities thrive. I was raised with a strong work ethic, beginning my journey working on local farms and trap ranges, where I learned the importance of responsibility, perseverance, and respect for the land.

As an Eagle Scout, I developed an early commitment to service, leadership, and community involvement—principles that continue to guide me today. My background also includes experience in construction and the skilled trades, giving me a practical understanding of infrastructure, project management, and the challenges facing working families and local businesses.

I’ve built my career in public service at the local level because I believe government has its greatest impact when it is closest to the people it serves. I currently serve as Parks Director for Outagamie County, overseeing major park systems, natural resources, and recreational programming that enhance quality of life for residents and visitors. In this role, I manage multimillion-dollar projects, lead staff teams, and work with community stakeholders to deliver responsible, forward-thinking solutions.

In addition to my county role, I serve as Town Chair for the Town of Freedom, where I’ve focused on fiscal responsibility, infrastructure improvements, and transparent governance. My hands-on experience with budgeting, contract management, and municipal operations allows me to approach challenges with practical insight and a long-term vision.

Outside of work, I’m an avid outdoorsman, trivia nerd, and volleyball player. You can often find me enjoying Wisconsin’s natural spaces, spending time with friends, or reading a good book. My passion for conservation and recreation is deeply connected to my work protecting and improving our parks and public lands.

I hold a Master of Public Administration from the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay, which has further strengthened my expertise in governance, policy, and leadership. Above all, I’m committed to bringing thoughtful, accountable, and community-focused leadership to every role I serve.

WHY I'M RUNNING FOR ASSEMBLY DISTRICT 5

I am running for office because I believe government works best when it stays grounded in the people it serves. Too often, decisions are made far from the communities they impact, and local governments are left navigating mandates instead of solving problems. I have spent my career in local government, and I have seen firsthand that the best solutions come from those closest to the work.

One of my top priorities is ensuring that money stays local first. Municipalities should not have to compete or plead with the state to access resources generated by their own residents. Local leaders are accountable to their communities and are in the best position to address infrastructure, public safety, and quality of life issues. Empowering local government means faster, more responsive, and more effective solutions.

I am also focused on tackling one of the most pressing challenges facing our communities: housing. Affordability is not just about building more units—it is about making sure the system works for buyers and families. We need to develop tools and policies that ensure cost savings are actually passed on to homeowners, not absorbed along the way. That means rethinking incentives, reducing unnecessary barriers, and making it possible for working families to achieve stability again.

Just as important is a shift in how we approach governing. I am not interested in ideological battles or outrage-driven politics. Our communities deserve leaders who focus on real problems and real outcomes. That means being willing to work with anyone who brings forward a good idea and having the integrity to call out bad ones, regardless of where they come from. Accountability should not be partisan.

Finally, I believe we must take a hard look at the future of agriculture. Farming is not just an industry in Wisconsin—it is part of our identity. Yet too many farmers are being squeezed between rising costs and shrinking margins. We need to make farming both ecologically and financially sustainable. That includes protecting our soil, supporting family farms, and ensuring farmers can operate fairly in the marketplace. Policies like allowing seed reuse, advancing the right to repair agricultural equipment, and rebalancing how products are bought and sold can help restore independence and long-term viability to our farming communities.

I am running to bring practical experience, local perspective, and a commitment to results. We can do better—and we can do it together.
